Causes and Prevention - Monday

After reading Chapters 1 and 2, post a summary of your graphic organizer here. Check back tomorrow for comments from the UNCC students. Also, post any questions you have for us!

9 comments:

  1. 3 Things we have learned
    1. more porous gun laws have higher per capita gun death rates.
    2. The murder rate correlates with sales of firearms
    3. Reasonable gun control laws in western countries typically have less and/or fewer murders

    2 possible solutions
    1. Require background check for gun owners or purchases for all 50 states
    2. Use guns only for protection

1 idea for implementing a solution

    TEC Plan

    Teach
    - Starting in the 8th grade teach students about firearms, their uses, and their effects.
    - Mandatory class until you graduate
    - Once you graduate you have to take another class to get a gun
    * You have to pass a test to obtain a gun\
    * You have to be 21 to get your gun license
    * There is a limit to how many guns you have ( depending on your background)

    Enforce
    - You have to have a certain type of license to have a concealed weapon
    - License will be revoked if arrested or convicted of a crime

    Continue
    - You have to renew your license every year
    * You have to take and pass a test to obtain a gun( Different test , same material)

    1. I like the way you have presented your plan. I can tell you have thought about how to start your plan and sustain it! Educating citizens about firearms is a great start!

Some things to think about: Will students be required to learn about firearms? Can their parents opt out of this program for their children? Some states already require concealed carry permits to have a concealed weapon. Will you change the requirements for this permit or require that all states require a concealed carry permit?

You guys are off to a great start! Let us know if you have any questions!

    2. You have a great plan to implement safer gun control laws. I especially love your idea about having to take a course and pass a test to obtain a gun license. I also agree that there should be background checks done before getting a gun permit. A few more things to consider are: Will this be state by state or nationwide? Who will pay for the courses and tests for people to obtain their license--the government or the people wishing to obtain a gun license? How will you present this plan to others to convince them that this plan will be effective? Perhaps you can bring in some of the statistics from the reading.

I can't wait to hear more of your ideas!

  2. Great job so far guys. You are heading in the right direction with your break down of Chapters 1 and 2.

You have come up with some great solution ideas. As you are continuing down the path for solutions be sure to use the information you have gathered to back up your authentic ideas. "In your opinion with the reading do you agree with more strict gun control or do you believe in less gun control?" Your solution plan starts out clear and states the main purpose. Now dive deeper into the solution. Are there any concerns? What problems may arise from your solution? Awesome work so far.

Let us know if you need anything!

  3. Required to get firearms license
    21 years of age
    United states ciitizen
    Pass the test
Clean criminal Background check ( no misdemenors or felonys)

-This will be a national mandated prograam where the state can not change or alter the laws.
-We will have officials from the goverment in each state and county to enforce the laws( thus creating more jobs).
-You have to take the class once in 7th grade and is taught at schoolduring Charcter Education(advisory)time.. Afterwards it is an optional class afterschool.
-More specific information on the laws will be addresed in the gun laws.

Ms Jennifer, who currently pays for gun registration?
Do you guys see any holes or concerns in our plan?

  4. Good revisions! I like that you included that more jobs would be created. One thing to consider...how will these jobs be funded? Higher taxes for the citizens? Also, will any classes be offered for adults, outside of the after school setting? Gun registration is currently paid for by the gun owner.

Great work; I can't wait to see your Prezi!

  5. Wow! I loved the 3-2-1. I agree that there should be classes for the purchasing/owning of guns, not just for a concealed carrier license. Great work! Looking forward to tomorrow.

  7. We established and stated already that if a person man or woman wants to keep their firearms they will have to renew their license. And to renew the license you have to take a class, get a background check, and pass the test.

Yes this class will be for men and women. But remember the adult will pay for their class which makes less likely for people to want to get a gun if it takes all of these steps. Now if they want to keep their firearm then they have to get the license renewed.

No, the citizens don't pay for the teacher's salary. The teacher's salary will get paid by sponsors.
